Continuing to Thrive Despite Tragedy  

The school year started a bit differently than planned, but even with the church fire, St. Joseph School is continuing to thrive!  Every day there is progress being made and we are thankful to those who are working to restore our St. Joseph campus.   We are thankful to now have our daily morning prayer and weekly school Mass in the Parish Center.  

At school, students are working hard to achieve their goals both in academics and in the bigger picture of being a disciple of Christ.  Many students have been working hard in reading to meet their AR goals, and some doubled and even TRIPLED their goal! Students this year have taken field trips to the pumpkin patch, Corban University to see "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," and there are plans for OMSI in the spring.  6th grade will attend Outdoor School in April.  We are thrilled to be taking our students on these outings that help them see things in a new way and create wonderful memories. 

St. Joseph School is in the 2nd year of Leader in Me, which helps students learn to create habits that will help them throughout their entire lives.  Based on Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, it teaches students to put first things first, begin with the end in mind, and find creative ways to solve problems with others.  Paired with our Virtues program from the Dominican Sisters, students also focus on a virtue each week.  Each month teachers have been honoring our students who have demonstrated living out a particular virtue and we are so proud of the example of our students. 

We are blessed to have the presence of our priests, Fr. Jeff and Fr. Matthew joining us as we begin the day for either morning prayer or Mass, and for Sr. Marta not only teaching our students Spanish but opening their eyes and hearts to the beauty of a vocation to the religious life.  To hear our students talk about wanting to be a priest or religious sister when they grow up brings joy to our hearts!!
